1899-S Doubled Date One Dollar MS VAM-7 Values
Details
The 1899-S Morgan dollar is a better date to be sure, but it is by no means rare, at least not in circulated or lower uncirculated grades. While generally lustrous and well struck, the 1899-S Morgan dollar becomes significantly scarcer in MS65 and extremely scarce in MS66. Examples grading in the MS67 level are quite rare. PLs are scarce in all grades, and the DMPL is, by Morgan dollar standards at the least, quite rare. This important VAM variety is designated as one of the MEGARED100 in the Mega Red 10th edition.
This coin is made of 90% silver; 10% copper and has a current melt value of $55.02
Obverse: Portrait of Liberty centered. On the left are found 7 stars with the words E*PLURIBUS*UNUM followed by 6 stars on the right. The date is positioned at the bottom.
Reverse: The heraldic eagle is centered holding a bunch of arrows and branch surrounded by and olive leaves. The words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA * ONE DOLLAR frame the periphery. Mint mark, if any, appears above the letters DO of DOLLAR.
