1892-O Micro O Half Dollar MS FS-501 Values

Details

The O mintmark is smaller than normal. Most often referred to as a Micro O, this variety was created when an O mintmark punch for quarters was used in place of the regular, larger mintmark intended for half dollar dies. This is one of the rarest collectible varieties of any series! As of 2024, about 51 pieces are known. The majority have problems of some sort or another. They are very rare in circulated grades and extremely rare in MS. Most are AG to VG, and a problem-free coin is a treasure.

Obverse: Portrait of Liberty surrounded by 6 stars on the left periphery and 7 stars on the right. IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed at the top with the date positioned at the bottom center.

Reverse: The heraldic eagle holding the symbolic olive branches and arrows is centered in the design with the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOLLAR around the periphery. A ribbon in the eagle's beak bears the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. 13 stars appear in the field above the eagle's head. Mintmark, if any, is positioned under the eagles tail feathers, above the D in DOLLAR.
