1889 Obverse Clashed Die One Dollar MS VAM-23A Values
Details
The IN of IN GOD WE TRUST shows clear evidence of a clashed die just beneath Liberty’s jaw at her neck. As of March 2024, fewer than 10 examples have been verified (seven specimens, all told). Of three Mint State examples, a PCGS MS-63 is the finest. An AU-55 sale has been confirmed at $26,000. Finding one of these will definitely make your day. Happy hunting! This important VAM variety is designated as one of the MEGARED100 in the Mega Red 10th edition.
Obverse: Portrait of Liberty centered. On the left are found 7 stars with the words E*PLURIBUS*UNUM followed by 6 stars on the right. The date is positioned at the bottom.
Reverse: The heraldic eagle is centered holding a bunch of arrows and branch surrounded by and olive leaves. The words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA * ONE DOLLAR frame the periphery. Mint mark, if any, appears above the letters DO of DOLLAR.
