1886-O One Dollar MS Values
Details
This is an extremely tough O-mint Morgan dollar -- one of the most challenging of all and a true key date, especially in Mint State grades. The jump in price from even Choice AU to MS60 is tremendous, and from MS60 upward, price jumps between grade points come in exponential multiples, with the tiny handful of coins in the MS65 range generally each considered six-figure coins. PLs and DMPLs are extremely rare, with PLs essentially non-existent above MS65 and only a tiny handful of DMPLs known in that grade range.
Obverse: Portrait of Liberty centered. On the left are found 7 stars with the words E*PLURIBUS*UNUM followed by 6 stars on the right. The date is positioned at the bottom.
Reverse: The heraldic eagle is centered holding a bunch of arrows and branch surrounded by and olive leaves. The words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA * ONE DOLLAR frame the periphery. Mint mark, if any, appears above the letters DO of DOLLAR.
