1879-CC Tripled Stars One Dollar MS VAM-5 Values

Details

This highly popular Carson City issue is much scarcer than many other CC-mint Morgan dollars, even in circulated grades. In Mint State, this piece enjoys much competition on both the retail and wholesale sides, keeping pressure on prices. Interestingly, 1879-CC Morgans are categorized into two distinct varieties: the normal CC and the Capped Die, or Capped CC. In the case of the Capped CC, the mintmark shows indications that the die was rusted, resulting in a neat variety that is noticeably scarcer than the normal CC, in which the top of the mintmark shows the appearance of tiny bubbles. PLs and DMPLs are highly scarce in all MS grades and most particularly so above MS64.

down This coin is made of 90% silver; 10% copper and has a current melt value of $46.08

Obverse: Portrait of Liberty centered. On the left are found 7 stars with the words E*PLURIBUS*UNUM followed by 6 stars on the right. The date is positioned at the bottom.

Reverse: The heraldic eagle is centered holding a bunch of arrows and branch surrounded by and olive leaves. The words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA * ONE DOLLAR frame the periphery. Mint mark, if any, appears above the letters DO of DOLLAR.
