Obverse: William Barber’s head of Liberty facing left, wearing coronet inscribed LIBERTY, with pearl border above, hair tied back with a ribbon, IN GOD WE TRUST in small letters above, seven stars left, six right, date 1877 below. A companion to the pattern dime, quarter dollar, and one variety of half dollar this year.
Reverse: Open agricultural wreath enclosing 1 DOLLAR. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA / E PLURIBUS UNUM and stars around border.
