1876-CC Twenty cents MS Values

Details

The 1876-CC Twenty Cent coin is one of the absolute great numismatic rarities in the history of the United States Mint. The original mintage of 10,000 is meaningless as the Mint Director called for the melting of all coins of the Twenty Cent denomination in the following year. The similar size to quarters brought upon great confusion between the two and it being such a strange denomination led to the quick demise. That directorial order wiped out this date and mintmark combination almost entirely leaving a survival estimate of under 20 coins that are all from the same die pair. Most of the 20 are in uncirculated condition. The Mint State examples are recorded in every grade from MS61 through MS66.

The highest amount brought at auction for this coin was $564,000 in a 2013 Stack's Bowers Auction. The most recent sale of the date was sold at the Long Beach Expo through Heritage Auctions and brought $456,000 for the CAC approved MS64 "Battle Born" Specimen. A six-figure value in any condition, this coin is a staple of American Numismatics and highlights any and all collections it is a part of.

up This coin is made of 90% silver; 10% copper and has a current melt value of $10.95

Obverse: Lady Liberty is seated on a rock, holding a staff, and bearing a shield with the word LIBERTY on a flowing ribbon. 13 stars have adorn the periphery and the date appears at the bottom center.

Reverse: An eagle is prominently featured with the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA * TWENTY CENTS around the periphery. The mint mark appears in the vertical space between the eagle and Y C of TWENTY CENTS.
