1871 3-Cent Nickel PR CAM Values

Details

The 1871 Proof Three Cent Nickel comes from a moderately low mintage of 960 coins, the majority of which are still in existence. This coin is common up to PR66, at which point it becomes scarce. All finer examples are considered rare. Eye catching examples with stunning color and notable strike can be found with some searching. There exists a slight, graduating premium for cameos with an increase in rarity and demand for deep cameos.

Obverse: A Romanesque Liberty is portrayed facing left with LIBERTY emblazoned on her crown. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA appears on the periphery with the date at the bottom.

Reverse: The roman numeral III is centered in the design surrounded by a large wreath tied with a bow at the bottom. This design is one of few American coins without wording on one of the sides.
