1852 Augustus Humbert 10 Dollar Gold MS California Left, K-10b Values

Details

After the reverse die on the 1852/1 Humbert $10 failed, a reverse die dated 1852 was made. Like the 1852/1 reverse, this die also cracked. The Kagin-10b has a wide date, and the word CALIFORNIA is further left than usual. Fewer than 10 examples are known, the finest of which is a choice AU.

Obverse: Eagle clutching shield and ribbon UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. 884 THOUS: TEN DOLS.

Reverse: Engine turning AUGUSTUS HUMBERT. UNITED STATES ASSAYER OF GOLD. CALIFORNIA. 1852.
