1817 O-103a Half Dollar MS Values
Details
On the O-103 variety, the die struck coins with a small indentation, leading to "dot" between the 181 and 7 in the date. While dramatic and easy to see with the naked eye, this variety is relatively common. The O-103a is a later die state which matches the diagnotics of the O-103, however the die dot is no longer present, so it's a so-called "punctuated date without punctuation." Obverse: Portrait of Liberty facing left with a cap and the word LIBERTY on a ribbon above her brow. 7 stars on the left periphery and 6 stars on the right side represent the original 13 colonies. The date appears centered at the bottom.
Reverse: An heraldic eagle holding olive branches and 3 arrows in its claws is surrounded by the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the periphery. A ribbon below bears the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. The denomination of 50C is centered below the eagle.
