Only 3 examples are known of the 1804 draped bust eagle, struck in proof format. Researcher John Dannreuther calls the 1804 Plain 4 $10 gold piece "one of the most spectacular gold rarities in the entire American series." Deep Cameo surfaces.
Obverse Description
Liberty with cap, facing right, surrounded by 13 stars and the word LIBERTY around the periphery. The date is centered at the bottom.
Reverse Description
A small eagle is centered holding a wreath in its beak, over its head, and an olive branch in its talons. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is written around the periphery.
