The special range of collector strikes was launched in 2013, from that year the proof versions of gold and silver Britannias featured a different design each year.

Created by the Romans almost 2000 years ago, the allegorical figure of Britannia endures as a poignant symbol of a proud and steadfast nation. The depiction of this female figure was first portrayed on coins for use on the island of Britannia by the Romans, during the reign of Emperor Hadrian, to symbolise the colonised isle. Her likeness has been an inspirational presence in British life throughout the centuries, weathering a changing economic, political and cultural climate as a long-lasting symbol of British fortitude. Known for ruling the waves, the icon has spanned millennia, appearing on the coins of every British monarch from 1660 and the reign of King Charles II through to His Majesty King Charles III.

For 2026, Britannia’s story continues with a fresh portrayal of the beloved figure by American coin designer Emily Damstra whose interpretation graces this year’s collector coin range. Facing a strong wind, Britannia wields her traditional shield and trident in a pose of determination and strength. To the figure’s right is one of the most south-eastern lighthouses in the United Kingdom and to further reiterate her association with the sea, the ornamentation on Britannia’s helmet mirrors the strong waves that frame her figure. Below the primary design and superimposed over the waves is the inspiring text MAJESTY, JUSTICE AND PEACE which references Prime Minister Winston Churchill’s 1941 address to US Congress during the darkest days of the start of the Second World War. The obverse side includes the effigy of HM King Charles III created by engraver Martin Jennings. Both the denomination ranging from 5 PENCE to 3000 POUNDS and the year of issue, 2026 is shown as part of the legend surrounding the King’s likeness.

The weights of the gold coins range from .08 gr. to one kilogram – with one unique piece struck with a weight of three kilograms. The weights of the silver options range from .08 gr. to two ounces. The proof quality gold coins are available either as a 6-coin set or as separate purchases.
