Stack’s Bowers & Ponterio’s April 2026 Hong Kong Auction Delivers Outstanding Results

Spanning April 13 to 20, the sale presented over 7,700 lots which delivered a 96% sell-through rate. Overall, this showcase surpassed $30,000,000 in prices realized after accounting for post-auction sales. The results once again underscore Stack’s Bowers & Ponterio’s firmly established position as a market leader, while signaling sustained momentum across the Asian market. Rarities Night (Session 1) led off the sale with highly sought after pieces that would be the pinnacle of any collection. Lot 40096, the Silver “Reversed Dragon” Dollar Pattern, finished above estimate at $414,800, while the PCGS MS-63+ Silver Dollar Pattern (lot 40091) realized $292,800.

The Robin C S Cheng Collection (Session 2) presented an exceptional selection of highly desirable pieces, with several standout highlights deserving special recognition. A Kwangtung Pattern Dollar, lot 41067, achieved $585,600 and lot 41146, a Year 3 (1914) Pattern Dollar, smashed expectations reaching $512,400, double the pre-sale estimate. Lot 41116, an impressive specimen 5 Mace Pattern, garnered $463,600, while another notable rarity, the Silver Tael Pattern in lot 41120, sold above estimate at $463,600.

In other sessions, an attractive MS-63 Japanese Oban, lot 44278, realized $292,800. A highly sought after countermarked Philippines 2 Reales on a Peruvian host (lot 44468), achieved a smashing $103,700. Lot 44023, an Annam Gold 3 Tien also surpassed high estimate, selling for $46,360. Another Japanese issue, lot 44306, a Year 10 Trade Dollar, sold well over high estimate, realizing $41,480.

The World Paper Money sessions were also tremendously successful, achieving a new benchmark of over $4,000,000 sold. Standout prices included lot 31503, a 1912 Philippines National Bank 5 Pesos, that smashed the high estimate at $79,300.  A Russo-Asiatic Bank 5000 Rubles, lot 30304, brought $67,100, while a note from Chili (lot 30376) reached $56,120 and a Macau 500 Patacas (lot 31319) sold for double its estimate at  $31,720.

Lot 44101: GERMANY. Bavaria. 5 Ducats, 1640. Munich Mint. Maximilian I. NGC MS-64. Realized $85,400.

Lot 44559: RUSSIA. Ruble, 1904-(AP). St. Petersburg Mint. Nicholas II. NGC PROOF-62 Cameo. Realized: $36,600.
