Stack’s Bowers Galleries Presents the Extraordinary Mack C. Chase Collection of Walking Liberty Half Dollars in the 2026 Global Showcase Auction

Stack’s Bowers Galleries, established in 1933 and known for bringing prominent collections of rare coins to auction, announces the sale of the collection of Mack C. Chase. Featured in the firm’s Summer 2026 Global Showcase Auction (an Event Auctioneer Partner of the ANA World’s Fair of Money) will be Chase’s extraordinary collection of Liberty Walking half dollars.  

Mack Chase was born in Texas but moved with his family as a child to rural New Mexico, where he began work at age 14 in the oil fields, later rising to prominence in the oil and gas industry. Eventually, he would become one of the most recognized and respected businessmen in the state of New Mexico. Remembering his humble beginnings, his success in business led him to give back to the community; he was particularly generous in his support of schools and local youth sports organizations. With his financial success Mack also developed numerous hobbies, one of which was coin collecting. He was drawn to the Walking Liberty half dollar, the beautifully designed workhorse of the American economy, that saw circulation through the turbulence of World War I, the Roaring 20s, the Great Depression, and World War II. These were the coins that he worked hard to earn in his early days in the oil fields in the mid-40s, and they made up a part of his take-home pay as a teen.

Unwavering in his passion for the series, Mack was able to use his resources to assemble an incredible collection. While some collectors like to advertise their holdings, Mack was quiet about his pursuits, all the while building one of the most extensive and finest sets of this coveted series.
