In 2021, the Royal Australian Mint released new, annual sets which saw Australia’s iconic circulating reverse designs redesigned to feature a baby-theme to each coin. Referred to as the baby coin gang, each reverse side was reimagined as a children's toy or character. Included was the winky-wonky lyrebird on the 10 cent coin, the wet windup platypus on the 20 cent piece and the cute & cuddly plush emu and kangaroo seen on the 50 cent twelve-sided coins. Together, they created a unique and engaging year set that provided a great way to celebrate the arrival of the newest member of the family, the wonders of a child's imagination while blending the simple joys of coin collecting.

Added to the range of baby-themed coins is a new silver crown size proof coin which depicts a cleverly redesigned reverse featuring kangaroos. Introduced as a circulation coin in 1984, artist Stuart Devlin’s reverse side depicted a mob of five kangaroos of various sizes. The new design shows four kangaroos as over-stuffed stitched toys. The numeral 5 and text DOLLARS are seen superimposed over the larger kangaroo. The obverse includes an effigy of HM King Charles III created by Engraver Dan Thorne along with the legend CHARLES III · AUSTRALIA 2024.
