eBay, one of the world's largest marketplaces for unique and historic coins, today announced the expansion of Authenticity Guarantee in the U.S. to a new category: collectible coins.
Following up on a similar variety erroneously produced in 1998, some 1999-S Lincoln proof cents were struck using the 1999 business-strike reverse die, showing the bases of the letters A and M in the word AMERICA nearly touching each other. This error can be seen with the naked eye and has become very popular with Lincoln cent enthusiasts. While it is unknown exactly how many exist, it is certainly a scarce error that realizes easily hundreds of dollars apiece, with some better examples taking thousands.
Obverse Description
