Rarities across the spectrum of American coinage are set to cross the auction block.
The undated Parsons & Company quarter eagles depict a quartz stamping mill on the obverse, possibly based upon the Gates & Company machinery owned by the Quincy Mining Company, in which Parsons was a partner. The reverse depicts a federal eagle, the legend PIKE’S PEAK GOLD, and the denomination. Of the six known pieces, only one example — an original choice AU that was part of the Garrett collection — remains in private hands.
